Data Platform Migrations
Data Platform Migrations
We help you migrate your data, ETL flows, and platforms to modern environments so that they can run faster, cheaper, and with less maintenance.

A clear data baseline
Map systems, ownership, and quality before migration decisions are made.
A delivery plan your team owns
Work in close partnership so knowledge stays with your people.
Built for what comes next
Create a resilient platform ready for new products, analytics, and AI.
A grounded approach
A migration should leave your teams stronger than before.

Successful data migrations are more than a technical handover. We work alongside your people to clarify what matters, make decisions traceable, and build a foundation that remains useful long after the transition is complete.
Typical scenarios we help with
When organisations agree on a migration to consolidate platforms or cut costs, we help data teams thorugh it - from strategy to execution.
We need to migrate from an on-premise warehouse or legacy ETL environment..
.. to a modern cloud platform, but we don't have a structured plan or the in-house expertise to execute it.

We've grown into multiple data platforms that need to be consolidated..
.. but the dependencies, teams, and tooling make it hard to know where to start.

We started a migration and got stuck before going live with the new system..
.. individual workloads run fine on their own, but switching over is a risk and teams are blocked.

We take a migration from the first plan through to switching off the last legacy system
We agree the scope and the governance before touching any code, carefully map what is running, then migrate one workload at a time. We build alongside the team that will maintain the result, and use AI agents for the repetitive translation and checking.

We take a migration from the first plan through to switching off the last legacy system
We get you a clear diagnosis and a roadmap to AI-ready data products, with a plan that the whole organisation can align on.

Process
Here's how we do it
We work through five phases on most migration projects we take on, where most of the effort sits at the beginning of the process. A successful migration is roughly 75% analysis and 25% execution.
01
Vision
We map how data flows across the current platforms and where the pieces connect, down to the dependencies that only show up in the code itself. That work is what lets us plan the migration one workload at a time instead of meeting hidden dependencies halfway through.

02
Governance
We map who owns which data, who signs off, and who needs to know when something changes. We also arrange access to the old and new systems early, because that is what stalls migrations before they begin. Decisions then have an owner, and the teams whose reports depend on the old platform know what is coming.

03
Discovery & inventory
We freeze development on the legacy side and work backwards from the reports and applications people actually use, down into the code, to find the dependencies nobody wrote down. We come out of it with a full picture of the estate and a migration plan that starts with the work returning value fastest.

04
Execution & validation
We migrate one workload at a time, into a test environment before production, with AI agents handling the repetitive translation and checking every result against the old system. Progress is visible week by week, with evidence that each migrated pipeline produces what it did before.

05
Decommission & cut-over
We switch over one deliverable at a time, keep the old platform running for a short stability window, then retire it. Before we leave, we hand over the architecture, the mapping and the reasoning behind the decisions we made. The old platform comes off the books, and the team that inherits the new one can run it.

Key Benefits
Here's what you can expect when you work with Dataminded on a migration project
A migration plan grounded in reality
We invest in the discovery and governance phases that are often the trickiest parts in large migrations.
Automated Follow-Ups
Never miss a touchpoint with customizable follow-up reminders and automated email sequences.
Speed without shortcuts
We use AI agents to automate repetitive tasks and accelerate delivery while engineers focus on what requires judgment.
Pipeline Visualization
Get a real-time overview of your sales pipeline to understand progress and spot bottlenecks.
We build to empower your team
We build alongside the team that will own the result. When the migration is complete, the people who need to maintain it are confident doing it.

Twelve years of migrations, one method
Migrations have been part of our work since 2014, across 50+ organisations and on AWS, Azure, and GCP. We wrote down how we run them in the Dataminded Migration Guidebook, the same five phases we use with clients, published in full.
